Sierra-at-Tahoe is a ski and snowboard resort in Twin Bridges, California south of Lake Tahoe. The resort is approximately 16 miles (26 km) south of Stateline, Nevada and 12 miles south of South Lake Tahoe, within the Eldorado National Forest. Sierra-at-Tahoe is very well known for being more family oriented. Since its inception in 1946, Sierra-at-Tahoe Resort has grown into its role as one of Lake Tahoe's largest resort areas. Sierra-at-Tahoe features 14 chairlifts that access 2000 acres of skiable terrain and 2,212 feet of vertical. The 46 available trails average 400 inches of snow per year. The resort also provides 5 backcountry access gates into Huckleberry Canyon. The resort includes 8 food outlets, 6 bars, ski & snowboard group and private lessons as well as a telemark and backcountry center. The South Shore of Lake Tahoe also provides plentiful lodging options for guests. Sierra-at-Tahoe Resort was started in 1946 by brothers Ray and Floyd Barrett as Sierra Ski Ranch, further down U.S. Route 50. The Sprock family operated the resort until 1993 when the resort was sold to Fibreboard Corporation. Fibreboard updated many areas of the resort, including changing the name to Sierra-at-Tahoe Resort. Booth Creek Ski Resorts purchased Sierra-at-Tahoe in 1996. With 480 inches of average annual snowfall, wind-protected slopes, incredible tree skiing, and 320 acres of backcountry terrain out the Huckleberry Gates, Sierra-at-Tahoe is a bastion of the authentic California ski experience.
