Whoah! There's So Much Snow!

North America gets snow every winter and each year brings different amounts. Last year was a snow bust, with pitiful totals in many regions of the continent. This year, however, Mother Nature has been more than happy to give us plenty of the white stuff to play in.

Here we will compare four different areas in North America and the differences in snow totals between last year and this year.

Don't forget to book your EPIC Snow Vacation Today!

Vail, Colorado

2017-2018 = 171 inches
2018-2019 (YTD)= 197 inches

Between December of 2017 and April of 2018, Vail had a total of 171 inches of snow. That may sound like a lot to people who live in warmer areas where snow is scarce, but it’s nothing compared to blockbuster years of the past. Thankfully, this year Vail seems to be making it up to skiers, snowboarders and other outdoor enthusiasts. Thru January 2019, they’ve already had a total of 197 inches of snow. With two and a half months left in the season, there’s plenty of time for winter to add to those totals.

Park City, Utah

2017-2018 = 167 inches
2018-2019 (YTD)= 163 inches

During the 2017-2018 season, Park City saw a little less snow than Vail. Last year, only 167 inches of the white stuff fell. This season’s number may trick you because the snowfall has only reached 163 inches so far. However, when you remember that there are two and a half months of the season left, you will see how this can still turn out to be a great year for Park City.

Stowe, Vermont

2017-2018 = 258 inches
2018-2019 (YTD)= 211 inches

The beautiful mountains of Stowe, Vermont received a grand total of 258 inches of snow during the 2017-2018 season, which put them way ahead of the western resorts of Vail and Park City. So far this winter, Stowe has received 211 inches of snow, which means that they are well on their way to exceeding their snow totals from last year during the next two and a half months. Hopefully, you can take some time to venture out and enjoy some of that extra snow if you make it up there before the season ends.

Banf, Alberta Canada

2017-2018 = 171 inches
2018-2019 (YTD)= 197 inches

Banff is one of the snowier destinations in North America, which is why it shouldn’t surprise you that they had 296 inches of snow during the 2017-2018 season. Currently, they have 176 inches of the white stuff on top of the mountains, but with three months or more of potential snowfall left in the season, they can easily surpass last year’s total.

Now that you have seen the differences between last year’s snow totals and this year’s, you can see why you should venture out to the slopes to have a few adventures!

Of course, skiing isn’t your only option when it comes to being out in all this snowy weather. Snowshoeing and cross-country skiing are two other ways to enjoy these massive amounts of snow and they’ll both keep you on more level ground than downhill skiing.

At the end of the day, you may want to venture out on a local ice-skating rink to take a spin on the ice. You can also find a horse-drawn sleigh ride to capture the feeling of winter and see the snow-capped mountains from a different angle.

With so much snow, there’s plenty of fun to be had. Grab your winter gear, bundle up, go outside and play!
