Q. How does trip cancellation and interruption coverage apply?

A. They reimburse for forfeited, non-refundable, unused payments or deposits if the insured must cancel or interrupt their trip due to covered reasons. The interruption benefit may also include coverage for additional transportation expenses.

Q. If I use frequent flyer miles to purchase a ticket, do I include the regular cost of the ticket as part of my trip cost?

A. Frequent flyer miles are typically not covered as the traveler is not actually paying cash for the ticket. Travel insurance provides reimbursement for covered travel expense losses incurred by the insured provided they are due to a covered reason under the plan purchased. This would include any prepaid non-refundable taxes, administrative fees and any fees that can be paid to re-bank the points or miles if the trip is cancelled.

Q. Does the Baggage and Personal Effects coverage include all items I may take with me while traveling?

A. No, there are some items that are not included such as prosthetic devices, false teeth, any type of eyeglasses, sunglasses, contact lenses or hearing aids, tickets, currency, etc.

Q. What if I want a refund of the plan cost?

A. Travel Guard is committed to providing products and services that exceed your expectations. If you are not completely satisfied, you can receive a refund. Requests must be submitted to Travel Guard in writing within 15 days of the purchase of your coverage, providing it is not past your original departure date.

Q. Are there any countries that do not accept Car Rental Collision Coverage?

A. Yes, Jamaica, Mexico, Ireland and Costa Rica.

Q. Do travel insurance plans include trip cancellation or interruption coverage due to terrorism?

A. Yes. Deluxe includes coverage due to terrorist incidents both within the United States and abroad. Please refer to the Policy of Insurance for additional details.

Q. What is a pre-existing medical condition?

A. A pre-existing condition is one that was first diagnosed, had a change in diagnosis, or required a change in medication during a certain time period immediately preceding and including the effective date of the travel insurance coverage. For Deluxe, the time period is 90 days.

Q. What is the length of travel we can insure?

A. You can insure round trips up to 364 days from departure date to return date.

Q. How do I determine the individual trip cost for each person in my party that is purchasing insurance?

A. If your itinerary breaks down the total trip cost on a per person basis, use the trip cost for each individual traveler. If your itinerary shows only one total sum for all travelers, the cost should be divided equally among the number of travelers.

Q. What is the deposit date or initial payment date?

A. The deposit or initial payment date is the day on which you made your first payment toward your trip. (i.e. airline tickets, hotel, cruise, tour etc.)
